I know I should count my blessings that Nathan has been getting pretty good at sleeping through the night, and that at least he is getting some decent sleep. However, thanks to the cats either wanting to go out in the pre-dawn hours or playing with Nathan's toys in the middle of the night, I still haven't gotten to sleep more than 6 hours in row. Oy.
Happy Birthday Nathan!
At his check up he weighed 26 lbs 4 oz (90%) and was 31 and 3/4 inches long (95%). Such a big boy.
Many people ask if the time has gone by quickly, but I feel this has been a very long year. He has grown and changed so much and everyday was different. What an adventure.
For the last few weeks I've been thinking about and preparing for Nathan's 1st birthday. He'll be one on January 22.
At first I didn't want to make a big deal since it certainly won't make any difference to him and he really does not need any more toys. But kind of like a wedding celebration, it is more for the community to celebrate than anything else. I think it is more important for his family, friends, and schoolmates to take note than for him to get presents and cake. I've gotten party favors together for his classmates at daycare, arranged for treats for his teachers, and scheduled the appropriate health check ups. His first birthday party will be more a party for our friends and the children of our friends. As far as a birthday gift from me, I think he'll be getting a new pair of shoes.
Nathan fed himself half of a grilled cheese sandwich (in bite size pieces) last night. Very impressive. Now we're going to work on using a sippy cup properly.
As evidenced by Gary discovering him peering over the railing in his crib after a nap yesterday, Nathan can now get himself into a standing position with a little bit of effort. The crib mattress is now at its lowest possible level. The rest of the day he demonstrated that he could stand up using a kitchen drawer, the coffee table, his stroller, a dining room chair, and a patio chair for leverage.
It is pretty amazing that two weeks ago I was very nervous by the fact that he wasn't crawling or pulling to stand. Now, seemingly over night, he can do both with ease. Strange how quick that kid can change.
I am pleased to announce that my parents will be moving to a house about two blocks away from us. Their offer was accepted earlier this week and now they are going into escrow. They want to do some remodeling first, so they won't be moving right away. They'll probably put their house in Glendale up for sale soon. The house is on 89th street is a five minute walk from us and on the way to the elementary school. Hurray!
Nathan crawled forward for the first time today! Hurray!!
Nathan has been getting up around 5am the last three days. It might have something to do with Gary's alarm clock.
