12 month outfits

Since Nathan is getting too big for most of his 6-9 month old outfits, over the weekend we broke out the 12 month size clothes. What a big boy; he just turned 5 months on Friday! Thank goodness (actually thank the VanderYachts) for all the hand-me downs.

Less exercise

Between being back at work and wanting to be with Nathan when I'm not at work, my exercise level has really gone down. When I was home with him, I used to be able to get in an hour walk most days, and if my mom or Gary could watch him for a while, I'd get in a half hour jog or even a trip to the gym. Now I'm just trying to go for a walk at lunch time while I'm at work, and the days I'm home to go for a short jog. This is so different from pre-baby days when I would do strenous exercise (jog an hour, bike two hours, etc) almost every day. Having a baby totally changes your expectations on what you might get out of "free" time.

I got some portraits of Nathan done as fathers day gifts. We didn't get many smiles captured on film, but there are a few cute ones.

Nathan has been getting better at tummy time. He hardly ever gets really upset and usually gets some good mini-pushups in. Here is my dad and Nathan doing there tummy time together.

back at work

So I'm back to work at Kaiser now. It has been really tough. I miss Nathan alot and worry about him. Of course, he is doing just fine at home with his dad. Gary will be on paternity leave until September taking his turn at baby care. I'm still breastfeeding, so I get to pump at work. This also means I wake up a couple times each night to nurse him. So I am still rather sleep deprived and my brain doesn't function as well as it used to.

Another sucessfull poker party last night. Although several people cancelled at the last minute, we still had eight players. We also had a few spectators. It was a pretty well rounded game. I came in second place, after a re-buy. I might have won the tournament again, but I had to give up my spot when Nathan needed to eat at 11pm. The last rounds were mostly well played, but the energy had totally gone out of the room after 10pm. Too many exhausted parents were playing. We're considering acting on Mike's suggestion to have the next poker party in the afternoon to try to prevent over-tired babies and parents.

SB 6-08-07

Yesterday, Tamara, Ari, Nathan and I went up to Santa Barbara to visit my Grandpa George and Eileen. We had a very nice trip, and Nathan was pretty mellow. It is fun to see how much George gets a kick out of his great-grandchild.

Recently Nathan has learned how to scream, laugh, and suck his thumb (but not all at the same time). Sometimes he screams when he is happy and sometimes when he is lonely and sometimes when he is tired. His expirements with volume are mostly amusing, but sometimes ear splitting.

This is my last week of maternity leave; Monday I go back to work!!

New look

I'm working on a new look for the top of the blog. I've started by making some new rotating banners. The idea is to reflect some part of my personality or interests. I'm not sure what I want to do with the right image, I'm still trying to come up with a nice logo. Let me know what you think and if you have suggestions.

I am getting sleep deprived again. The last few nights Nathan has been waking up alot at night and last night was the worst in a long time. He woke about every 2 hours, which means I got about five 1 hour naps. That, combined with the previous night's rest, has made me a zombie who may bite your head off or burst into tears without a moments notice. I really hope he starts to sleep a bit longer soon, at least once I go back to work in a week. I never thought I'd miss the days he slept 3 hours in a stretch.
