Excited about reading

I've been reading to Nathan regularly, usually just the small board books. I go get about a dozen book from the library every week or so. Today I got a few larger books and he got really excited about the big pages. You can see a short video below (sorry the lighting is a bit dark).

plumbing problems

Yesterday our toilet backed up into the tub (YUCK!!) and I called a plumber. They were 5 hours late and had to take off the toilet to look with a scope. In the process they broke the toilet plange (whatever that is). Their diagnosis was a broken sewer pipe which they would charge over 7k. Let us just say Gary and I were hesitant to fork over that much.

A second plumber came over today and said he would fix the toilet phlange for less than half what they wanted and probably wouldn't need to replace the sewer pipe at all. It will still be expensive, over $1000, but it sounded more resonable than the first guys. Too bad this didn't happen during the first year we lived in the house, the the home warranty would have covered it.

Jonathan's wedding

DSCblah.JPG

Gary and I went to Jonathan's wedding today. Gary's mom was nice enough to babysit Nathan at our house so we could go. The wedding was nice, and excluding my own, the one wedding where I knew most folks there. My brother Ari, was the best man and Jen was a groomsmaid. My dad sang some blessings during the ceremony and even Gary got invovled by holding the huppa. Click the photo to see more online.

Rolled over

Nathan rolled over this morning - hurray! He was doing tummy time on his blue mat and quite content. I went in the kitchen to make my breakfast and my mom was in the garage doing laundry. While pouring my cereal, I heard him starting to cry a bit and figured it was just him getting tired of tummy time (only recently has he begun to tolerate it without crying for a few minutes). My mom came in and shouted "He's on his back!" Sure enough, he was on the floor in his back next to his tummy time mat. So he must have rolled, but no one was there to witness it.

Zibari

DSCF1696.JPG

Nathan had his 4 month well baby check up today with Dr. Zibari. He is growing well, weighing 17lbs 2oz (90%) and 26.5 inches long (75%). He got some more shots, but seemed to do fine; he screams worse coming out of a bath.

Julie's b-day

Last night I went out to dinner with some old high school buddies and I took Nathan along. The food and company was nice, and Nathan was behaved for the most part. But we didn't get home until 9:30pm and past his bedtime. That, in addition to him have a short sleep in the car in the way home, meant Nathan was super cranky and did not want to fall asleep easily like he usually does. He fussed and whined until about 11pm - Ugh. That boy needs his regular bedtime, or else...

swimming

DSCF1696.JPG
Yesterday Gary, Ari and I took Nathan over to Ray's house for his first swim in a pool. Well, he didn't actually swim, just kind of moved through the water while we held him. He enjoyed the water, and hated getting out. Kind of the same way he reacts to baths. We're going to try and make it a regular thing now that it is summer time, and Ray is such a nice host.

I posted lots more photos online.

grabbing

In the last few days, Nathan's grabs have gone from being random attacks or accidental handfulls to purposeful jabs. He has been grabbing his favorite turtle that hangs in his stroller and he has been pawing this lovely ring toy we just got from the Vanderyatchs. He grabs them all on his own if dangled within reach. It is amazing how he can start doing new things seemingly overnight.

Bouncy chair

Here is a shot of Nathan playing in his bouncy chair (a wonderful hand-me-down from Katie). In the last couple weeks he has really gotten into kicking the hanging toys. He can get mesmerized. Although the two girafs that came with the chair make the most noise rattling around, the "whoozit" toy is what he stares at.

lois is back

Good news - Lois is back! As Gary commented, he found Lois curled up in a chair in the back yard early this morning. Yeah!

Lois is missing

Our calico cat, Lois, has been missing since Saturday, and as the days go by, it seems less likely she will return. I feel so worried and sad that we may have lost her. I guess that is the risk with letting your cats go outside, but she was the one who stayed inside most and never seems to go far once she was outside. She had a collar with our phone number on her and she also has a microchip. Also, something about being a mother now, maybe all those potent maternal hormones, makes me just feel awful about loosing her. I really hope she shows up.

Overtired baby

DSCF.JPG

This weekend was pretty busy for me. Friday night we went to BCC, but first met up for dinner at the Thai House. Saturday we had lunch with Gary's parents, his uncle, and his grandma. We spent the afternoon with the Hoggatts and then headed over to Mike and Phaedra's for a cinqo de mayo BBQ. Today Cathy and I went out for lunch while Gary watched Nathan.

All this activity was fun, but made me and Nathan pretty tired. He hardly napped at all on Saturday, was super cranky Saturday evening. He clearly had gotten wired from all the attention at Grandma and Grandpa's house and had a really hard time settling down when he did finally crash and sleep. I also, got relatively little sleep and am looking forward to the upcoming quiet week at home.

New bath tub

DSCF1696.JPG

I've started bathing Nathan in the plastic tub since he's outgrow the kitchen sink.

Although taking care of Nathan all day is alot of work, and there never seems to be enough hours in the day, I would not say it is intellectually stimulating. In some ways I am looking forward to returning to work next month, if only for adult company and less mind numbing work.
