Moving

Gary and I are now moved in to our new home, although I would not say we are settled. We've lived there about a week now, and it still feels strange to me. I'm keep having to remember which drawer my socks are in, how the shower controls are set up, and to be careful navigating my car into the garage or else my side mirror will get torn off. I still haven't figured out a good way to get to work; so far it actually seems a longer drive in the morning than from our old place.

Admittedly, I haven't been spending much time in our new house. Between buying stuff for the house and last minute projects for High Holy Days, I've been getting home around 10:30pm. It has been frustrating since alot of the home improvements we expected to get done are delayed. For example, the phone lines in our house aren't working. We can get a signal to the phone box on the outside of the house, but no dial tone from the phone jacks inside. Without phone lines we can't get our DSL internet up either. The patio furniture we bought is back ordered. And I have no idea when we will eventually be able to put in some much needed plants in the yard or new cabinets in the kitchen.

I imagine these delays and frustrations are somewhat normal after a big move. We did have some small sucess with painting the inside and installing new sinks. The housewarming/birthday party for Gary Oct 8 won't showcase a polished and perfect house, but we'll manage. I am looking forward to getting all our new furniture and home projects done (and actually getting to spend some time there) so I can eventually feel like our house is a place I can call home.

LA tri

Sunday I raced in my second olympic distance triathlon. Things went really well during the race. The only slip-up was that I forgot to bring my wallet and did not have money for parking. Luckily, a fellow racer loaned me ten bucks to park at Staples Center.

I did really good on my time. My last race took about 3hours and 30 minutes. This time I finished in 3 hours and 11 minutes.

The best part was that my parents, brother, and husband were there to cheer me on. I'm actually lucky they got there in time to see me race. I expected I'd be slower and told them they didn't need to get downtown until 9:30 at the earliest, but I biked in at around 9:20. They got there a bit early and cheered me on. We all had a great brunch at my parents' place afterwards.
