This weekend I had a little adventure on my bike. I was almost done with my ride when I got a flat. Now, I've patched flats before and have a repair kit and pump with me on the road. But I could not fix this one because the actual stem that you would attach a pump to had broken. Thankfully it only took about 20 minutes (walking up hill) to get home. Only then did I realize I had broken down about two blocks from a bicycle repair shop. Ah well.
Also, Gary and I had an awesome time at the John Williams concert at the Hollywood Bowl. This time we took Cathy's advise and parking was more managable. The concert was just fabulous. I didn't realize it before we got the tickets, but the event is actually hosted and conducted by John Williams - the living legend. He lead the LA Philharmonic in a rendition of some of his works. I was told that every year the music is different because he has so much to choose from. Even though I consider my self a fan, there were some hard core fans there (with glow in the dark light-sabers waving to the Star Wars pieces). It was alot of fun.
This weekend was pretty busy. Gary and I went to three parties in three different counties. Mike's party was the most fun, even if it wasn't an official "party." Although it is nice to by busy and see friends and family, I am just one of those introverted people who has to spend a good chunk of time by myself. Thank goodness for the olympics on TV and Might and Magic 7.
I also got on my bike for the first time in over 7 weeks. After topping off the air both tires, I did just fine over the 20 mile trek. After lessening my exercise routine for the wedding and honeymoon, I'm gettting ready to pick up the pace again. This fall I'm going to take it easy - which means exercising about 5-6 hours per week. Once winter rolls around, I'm going to try to focus on endurance - going longer but at an easier pace. Then I'll build on speed and technique in the spring. My goal is to finish an olympic distance triathlon (swim 1.5k, bike 40k, run 10k) in June and maybe again in September of 2005.
I think it is time for a bit of environmental activism. The Sierra Club can help you send a letter or email to your representative on important issues such as family planning, protecting wild forests, public health, encouraging fuel efficient technologies, human rights, public transportation, and many other issues. The sierra club will figure out who your representative is. Then you have the can of send a pre-written message, or write your own directive, on a certain piece of legistlation. They make activism easy.
For all you LOTR fans who think you know all kinds of goofy trivia about the movie trilogy - I saw this on TheOneRing.net. Test your knowlegde on Who Wants to be a Millionaire : LOTR edition.
I got up to millionaire on my third time through.
Gary and I hosted our first Dungeons and Dragons meeting Saturday. (We are such geeks). It was mainly just to set up our characters and get a feel for the world. Gary is the Dungeon Master, which means he organizes and arbitrates the games. I will play female Orc hawk totem warrior. I've only ever played a couple times before, but the groups fizzled out. Our game should be alot of fun. Thanks to all who participated and see you in a couple weeks.
This is probably the most disgusting story I've ever read. Apparently a 480-pound woman in Florida sat down on her sofa and did not get up again -- for six years. When she finally got mortally sick, ambullance workers had to cart her and the attached couch to the hospital.
It also shows that my Mom was right when she threatened "Don't plant yourself in front of the TV. If you stay there long enough, you'll never be able to get up."
Last weekend Gary and I went to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Hollywood Bowl with friends, Caleen and Steve.
It was a nice evening out. The concert was pretty cool. It was a combined concert with the band and the LA philharmonic. I am a big fan of their swing style - you can't help but tap your toes. It's too bad we were stuck in our seats and couldn't dance. The poor logistics added about 3 hours extra to our evening.
The sucky part was getting to the Bowl and getting back home. The parking is a nightmare - 2,800 spots for an 18,000 seat venue. We had to take this stupid shuttle from an overflow lot that was full an hour before the performance.
We're planning to see a couple other shows there this season. If anybody knows of some secret way to get to the Hollywood Bowl and park in a convenient way - please let me know.
We got our honeymoon pictures back. Ah, I miss vacation already. It is actually just strange to be in one place every night and not have to pack and get on a train every other day.

Where to begin? It seems like it has been way more than a month ago that I took time off from work to get ready for the wedding and then go on a honeymoon in Europe. There is just too much to include it all here. Suffice it to say to wedding was a blast. I had such a good time the weekend leading up to the 4th with friends and family, the ceremony was just as I'd hoped it would be, and the party was so much fun. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped Gary and I celebrate. For some great pictures of the wedding check out Chris Clark's website.
The honeymoon was also wonderful. Gary and I saw so much, but were still able to appreciate the sites and each other. Some highligths are -- seeing an all female production of Much Ado about Nothing at the Globe in London, having an authentic british shabat home cooked dinner, visiting friends on their farm north of Paris, bicycling along the Loire valley to see chateaux, seeing the oldest synagoge in Europe, touring the ruins of the Roman ampitheater were the first christians were gorged, relaxing at a beach in Barcelona, and seeing lots and lots of historic art and architecture. Hopefully we'll have some pictures posted on our wedding website soon.
