One week to go

Exactly one week left till the big day! I'm really looking forward to the whole thing. We have events planned for the whole weekend. I'm also really excited about the honeymoon - a whole month in Europe. Yeah.

Shrek 2 and Pride Fest

On saturday I went with my family to see Shrek 2. I had heard really good things about it - so probably my expectations were too high. It was okay, but I wasn't laughing that much. The first one was much better.

Sunday, I went to the Gay Pride Parade in West Hollywood. I was there for two reasons. First, I ran in the 10k Pride Run earler that morning. I improved my time coming in at about 54 minutes. I actually came in third place in my age group and got my picture taken with the celebraty hostess - Lucy Lawless. Once I find some copies I'll be sure to post them here.

Second, I participated in an interfaith worship service across the street from the Homophobic protesters that always show up at the parade. Our temple was there with a couple other church groups. The point was to provide contrast to the signs saying "Fags Burn in Hell" - so we prayed, sang hymns, and had our own signs like "God created all human beings" and " In you faith." A little activism is good for the soul.

Last night I was up late having a great time with my two longest and best friends - Irene and Cathy. We didn't do anything too wild and crazy, but it was just my speed. I grateful to have such good girlfriends.

Harry Potter 3

Oh, I found my newest favorite movie. Gary and I saw Harry Potter 3 last night and boy was it well done. The third book is probably my favorite so far, and Alfonso Cuaron did a great job putting the film together. The focus has shifted to plot, while the magic stuff is just the backdrop - a much for effective way to tell the story. The kids are doing a better job at acting too.

I also found a cool new website for Potter fans. JK Rowling has her own website which on which she answers common questions, squelches rumors, and gives some "deleted scenes" from her books. For example, there is a whole background storty about Dean Thomase that never made it into the novels. Very interesting.

Danskin Triathlon

I had some real ups and downs this weekend. The biggest up was coming in 8th out of 41 in my age group at the Danskin Triathlon on sunday. I am very proud of my time of 1:40:13. This was definitely a personal best. It took me 15 minutes to swim about 800 yards (half mile), 50 minutes to bike 13 miles - which is about 15mph, and 28 minutes to run 5k - about a 9 minute mile. Woohoo! Now to rest a bit. Well, I do have another 10k coming up in three weeks, but that's not too bad.

One down was that after the race (and only about 5 hours sleep the night before) I had another migraine. At least this time I had some perscription drugs to take. The medicine helped alot, but I was still out of comission the whole afternoon and evening. I think my body was telling me something; maybe - "too much stress!" I'm going to try to take it easy, but I'm such a worrier, and exercise helps me cope. I hope things go smoothly for the wedding.

memorial weekend

I had a pretty good memorial day weekend. Sarurday Gary and I went shopping and updated our wedding registries. We also went to LAMCA to see a photography exibit by Diane Arbus. Her photos are a bit strange, or rather of strange people, but it wasn't that great.

Sunday was my bridal shower. Man, that made the whole wedding thing seem real. Up until the shower, the wedding was more of this vague concept to plan for. Now that we're getting presents and RSVPs, the wedding is tangible. (If you haven't sent in your RSVP yet - do it.) Many thanks to the hostesses and all who attended.

We spent Sunday evening at my parents house. It was fun to hang out with my folks and my brother playing games. Monday, Gary, Ari, and some of his friends, and I visited my grandfather in Santa Monica. The day was just beautiful. The only problem was my recurrent indigestion. I'd had it since Friday. I thought it was just stress and had taken multiple different over-the-counter and perscription medicines to try to make my tummy settle down. My brother suggested I cut out dairy, which seems to have done the trick. Maybe I am lactose intolerant?

It was great to see so many different friends and family members. Of course the best part was simply having a 3 day weekend and a 4 day workweek. I so need a real vacation.
