Uplink

I dont' really have much liesure time at home these days, what with a long comute. But I have found a new computer game to take up the time I find to waste. Uplink is a roleplaying game set in the future. You act as a computer hacker, recieve missions to sabotage data, steal indentities, hack into banks, etc. Gary cautioned me that this might be like that movie War Games where some kid thinks he is playing a computer game but actually throws the world into nuclear war. Actually, the game designers must have a sense of irony, because one of the missions is to hack into Protovision Systems, the same company as in the movie.

Delayed posting

I have to apologize for not posting sooner. I usually am a pretty organized and capable person, but lately it's been enough just for me to get to work everyday. Something about moving and having a totally new job has made my capacity to do extraciricular activities very dificult. Remembering to pay bills, make appointments, call friends, do chores, and all the little things I'm usually able to juggle are much more challenging than they should be. Hopefully once I've got the new work routine down, the rest of my life will also become easier to grasp.

First week at work

My first week at work was a bit of a roller coaster. The first three days were just oreintation, and very boring. I learned about the history of Kaiser, radiation safety, quality improvement, compliance, clocking in and out, fire safety, infection/ blood borne pathogen control, retirement plans, etc. The fourth day I actually went to my office.

It was a rude awakening. Since the position was empty for so long, there is a big back log of work to do. Referrals to see patients are just piling up. Also, there is a huge lack of organization; it's like they don't even alphabatize anything. The office could use alot of technology updates too. Finally, there seems to be alot of office politics between the doctor and the secretary. I'm supposed to come in and take charge, be the peace maker, and get everything running smoothly. The task of organizing and on top of the bickering seems like a big challenge. I think I can handle it, but it will take some time before the ship is sailing smoothly.
